Our Kickstarter Project is LIVE

I’m excited to announce the launch of South Sudan Emerging’s Kickstarter campaign. Over the next month, we’ll be raising $17,000 towards the next phase of filming in South Sudan. My vision for this film is to tell the story of what it feels like to suddenly find that your people have their own country. What would that change feel like? How far could you reach? What would you do? I’ll be telling the story of three friends who have big dreams for their country. Each dream is as different as they are.

The ultimate goal is to get the rest of the budget funded through grants, but I love the idea of getting this off the ground through grassroots methods. I’m not good at asking for money, which is why I love Kickstarter.com. I love the idea of actually giving people stuff for their help. Check out the campaign page and see if there’s something that interests you.

Insomnia in Nairobi (heading to Sudan in a few hours)

So my driver shows up in about an hour to take me to the airport. It’s 4:28am right now. I’ve slept a little more than 2 hours and I have a ton of bureaucracy to deal with tomorrow Juba, which is what took up a majority of my time today. The day ended on a really good though note so I’ll take it. See you all on the flip.

No one cares about your nuanced strategies.

Only colleagues and competitors care about strategy. Your audience, they don’t care, they just want to find something to believe in. The people with whom you want to affect change, they really don’t care, they just want your collaboration. Your funders, mostly, they want to know you ship and are on time. No one cares what mics you use, what cameras you use, Mac or PC, Word or Lotus, Paper or Computer, 4 Track to Tape or Digital, Real or Synth. Your work speaks for you, not your strategies.
